Local Surroundings
Avignon :
10 to 20 minutes away
We’re not here to replace the travel guides — just to share our favourite spots. Feast your eyes on the Palais des Papes, climb to the Rocher des Doms via the main entrance and descend through the Sainte-Anne staircase, wander the charming Banasterie district, loop back past the Hôtel de la Mirande, then slip into the “bowels of the rock” to reach the Place de l’Horloge.
Not to miss: Place Crillon, Place des Corps-Saints, Rue des Teinturiers, and Les Halles — especially on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Everywhere, you’ll spot lovely façades of historic townhouses.
Our highlight: Walk around the Palais des Papes to admire its immense façade from the Utopia-Manutention cinema, then return via the Verger Urbain V.
Villeneuve Les Avignon :
10 to 20 minutes away
Just outside the village, the climb to and visit of the Fort and the Abbaye Saint-André offer breathtaking views over the entire region.
Our preference: Sit beneath the abbey’s arches and admire the City of the Popes, which looks like an island emerging from a sea of trees.
L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue :
10 to 20 minutes away
Known as the Provençal Venice, and possibly the antiques capital of Europe (or even the world?). If you enjoy a lively atmosphere and shopping, don’t miss Sunday morning, the day of the big market. Prefer a quieter moment? Choose a weekday evening and settle on a restaurant terrace by the canals. A thousand treasures await if you love vintage finds and flea markets!
Ventoux Area :
30 to 60 minutes away
The summit of the Giant of Provence remains a truly unique destination. A climb to 1,912 metres is a must — whether on foot, by bike… or by car.
Our favourite experience: Watch the sunrise from the summit with views reaching up to 200 km across the Alps. Check sunrise time and arrive 15–20 minutes before, at the orientation table on a clear day. An unforgettable moment!
Explore the Gorges de la Nesque,a real canyon carved by the river over 15 km, from the Sault Plateau to the Comtat plain. The scenic road between Villes-sur-Auzon and Monieux is magnificent.
Our secret: Park at the viewpoint opposite the Rocher du Cire and walk down to the river — there you’ll find the hidden Chapelle Saint-Michel, nestled in the shade of towering cliffs.
Luberon Area :
30 to 60 minutes away
Gordes, Roussillon, Bonnieux… and all the way to Lourmarin —
the iconic quartet of the most beautiful villages in the Luberon.
See one or see them all!
Our tip: If you’re looking for quieter spots, head to Oppède-le-Vieux, and hike up to the church and ruins — a discreet but fascinating village.
Le COLORADO DE RUSTREL ou COLORADO PROVENCAL : An astonishing landscape that feels like the American West — a former ochre quarry shaped by erosion into surreal colours and formations.
Come back in a few years — the scenery will have changed!
Our recommendation: Choose Rustrel over the more touristy ochre trail in Roussillon.
Alpilles Area :
30 to 60 minutes away
Saint-Rémy, Glanum, Les Baux-de-Provence — among the most beautiful villages in France. To have them nearly to yourself, skip the busy 10am–6pm slot and come in the late afternoon, when the light is soft and magical. You won’t regret it.
Our highlight: The Carrières de Lumières — a digital art cathedral projecting immersive shows on the walls of a former quarry. Fascinating for all ages, refreshing on a hot day, and a beautiful cultural experience.
Gard Area :
30 to 60 minutes away
The Pont du Gard and the banks of the Gardon River are perfect for a full day of historical discovery — and a refreshing swim in the river.
Our recommendation: Between Collias and the Pont du Gard, the river winds through 4 km of peaceful nature.
Arrive early to grab the best spots for a perfect family day by the water.
